Probate is a court-supervised process that transfers the ownership of a person’s assets after their death. The Probate Court protects those assets until a judge can confirm whether the person who died had a Will and who the beneficiaries should be. The Probate Court also ensures that all debts, liens and taxes are settled before assets can be distributed.
